ATHENA uses, links against, invokes, or interoperates with several third-party components. These components remain under their own licenses. Their inclusion here does not transfer their copyright to ATHENA, and ATHENA's GPLv3 license does not replace their original license terms.
Known external components include Qt 6, GUILE 1.8, mimalloc, SQLite3, llama.cpp, PEGlib, Python 3, uv, FreeType, PNG, JPEG, zlib, zstd, ImageMagick/MagickWand, iconv, GnuTLS, GMP, Ghostscript, resvg/ResvgQt.h, and libtcc.
These components remain under their own licenses. ATHENA's GPLv3 license does not replace their original license terms.
Not every component listed above is bundled with every ATHENA release. Some are ordinary system libraries, some are build-time tools, some are optional runtime tools, and some may only be used by specific features.
When a component is provided by the operating system or package manager, its license notices are normally provided by that system package. When a component is bundled, vendored, or redistributed as part of an ATHENA release, the corresponding release should include the required license texts and notices for that component.
ATHENA may interoperate with local retrieval or inference tools such as llama.cpp. The license of ATHENA does not cover model weights, embedding models, downloaded datasets, or user-provided AI assets. Users and distributors are responsible for complying with the licenses of any models or external data they use with ATHENA.
The GPLv3 applies to ATHENA as a software program. It does not automatically apply to documents created with ATHENA.
Mathematical notes, vault contents, images, PDFs, exported documents, generated websites, and other user-created materials remain under the copyright of their respective authors, unless those authors explicitly publish them under another license.
Using ATHENA to write a document or generate a website does not by itself place that document or website under the GPLv3.
ATHENA can generate static websites from selected parts of a vault. The website-generation code, templates, scripts, and styles distributed as part of ATHENA are licensed as part of ATHENA, unless otherwise stated. The mathematical or textual content exported from a user vault remains the author's content.
A generated website may therefore contain both ATHENA-provided infrastructure and user-provided content. Website owners should state the license of their published content separately.
